On Monday morning I decided to fill the suet feeders. I went down to the freezer where we’d kept the suet and discovered we only have 4 packages left from our last cow, years back.
When I went out to hang up the feeders, I discovered the birds had finally found the feeders. There’d been none on them all day Sunday.
Most of the birds were very skittish with me there. But not the chickadees! They were buzzing around on the posts and more distant feeders from where I was.
So I went back inside and took these shots through the office window. I’m surprised they came out so well, as there are double panes on the window and a storm window.
I saw a nuthatch on the farther post when I’d headed back into the house. They are easy to find, as they seem to always be walking upside down on things.
The one on these last 2 photos is a tufted titmouse.
I have never been good at identifying woodpeckers.
This one has red on the back of its head.
I am glad we got the feeders up. It will be fun watching the birds flitting around them. On Tuesday I have to locate more suet. Hopefully our dairy farm (they also sell meat) will have some.
