On Friday when my intern took me to the store, I’d seen a sign for a tag sale on Saturday that was near my house. I thought I’d try to get to it early Saturday morning before I got tired. I looked online to see if there were any more close to me. I found an estate sale on what I thought was a road near me. So I decided to try to do those 2.
The first one netted the big queen size comforter and a new pair of flipflops for $5.50. The comforter is back up for covering my couch. The one that’s on there is starting to wear out. The flipflops will be my good outside summer shoes.
I was only there 5 minutes and felt ok, so I headed out to the second one. Well, I’d mixed my roads up and it turned out to be a LONG way from me.
When I finally got there, I saw a man coming down the driveway carrying MY pitchfork! I said to him, “You got my pitchfork!” He said, “Yup!” and kept going. Sigh….I HATE when that happens. I so need a new pitchfork and this was exactly the one I’m looking for, and I just missed it.
But I did find a spring rake (see first photo) to replace the one I broke a week or so ago. I use the wooden baskets in the pantry, and after 40 years, one of mine was losing its bottom. I was glad to snap this one up. I needed another foxtail broom for the masonry heater hearth. It seems all my heavy staplers develop issues, so it will be nice to have a properly working one. I also found 2 dust pans in good shape to replace the broken and wrecked ones we’ve been using. All for $5.
Inside the house, I found the enamelware pan, the Fire King bakeware, and 2 of my mom’s dinnerware pattern that she doesn’t have. I got ripped off online over her Mother’s Day present, so now I have something to give her. I spent $16 for the stuff in the house, as it was collectibles, but still it was a good deal.
Once I got it loaded into the car, I had to face the long drive home. I was only gone an hour total, but that was 40 minutes over my limit. I kept to back roads as there was less traffic. I was so exhausted from concentrating so hard to drive when I finally made it home.
I got the car unloaded, the stuff put away, and ended up reading or sleeping the rest of the day. It was too bad, as it was a beautiful day, but I’d overdone it driving. That’s why I don’t drive. I was just glad I’d made it safely. I won’t be trying that again.
