Saturday was to be a beautiful day and started off with this sunrise.
Every morning Lily is right there waiting to be fed in the butchershop at 7AM. Dennis is sometimes around, but not often. I am still not forgiven for putting flea meds on her.
My friend and I left around 8AM and looked for tag sales on the back roads on the way to the Fairgrounds. There were a lot of vendors in the 3 small buildings, on the midway, and in the cattle barns and the showring.
My first purchase was this daisy tablecloth for summer use and a FireKing loaf pan to replace the one that cracked. They were $3 each.
Next I bought the picture. It was filthy, broken, and the frame needed work. It was $3. The Lodge skillet was more expensive, but I didn’t have a big one and the price was ok. I also found a bunch of candles for my luminaria at Christmas.
As we wandered around we came across this convertible stroller/high chair. The top photos are as a stroller, the bottom 2 as a high chair. It was made in 1880 and priced at $400. It was in excellent shape. It did not come home with us.
We kept looking and I found a puzzle for Christmas and a stainless steel steamer $1 a piece.
And then I saw this! It was priced at $15 and I walked away. But not far, obviously. It’s so gay and pretty, I could not leave it.
I spent the afternoon cleaning and repairing this picture. It had a wooden back and needed a mini mat between the glass and the picture to protect the picture. I put the picture on a backer board with double side tape, and then put the wooden backing back on. Some new picture wire and it was ready to hang. It’s titled ‘Beginning of Fall’.
I looked it up and actually found the exact one I’d bought. It had sold for $1 at the Lenox, MA Estate Lifetime Art Collection estate sale.

My friend found this yellow speckled enamelware butter dish for $3 I think. I looked it up and it was selling for $39 - $75!
On our way home from the tag sales, we stopped at the farm store to buy orange pumpkins. I got 2 small ones and 2 medium ones. I should have gotten 2 large ones, but I didn’t know how many white ones I had. Turns out one of the white ones had been eaten into, so that’s the one at the foot of the walkway waiting to go to Tom’s chickens.
While I was gone the mason came and sealed the office chimney. It’s finally finished. But he was again unable to put the cow door on the masonry heater. He told my son he’d be back on Monday to do it.
Sunday is more cleaning. It’s to start raining Sunday night through Tuesday morning. So I expect I’ll have to light stoves or run space heaters while I clean and clean…
