On Saturday morning my intern and I went to 2 plant sales. The first at our local foods market, had started the day before and they were mostly sold out. They were expecting another delivery but not until afternoon.
I found some Tulsi basil and horseradish plus Kuri squash and Moskovich tomato seeds. I did a bit of grocery shopping and we headed out to the other sale.
Oh, yeah, I found this variety of sweet peppers I’d grown before too. The seeds I used this year were old and have not come up. So I figured better safe than sorry.
The second sale is to benefit the local vocational school. I donated lots of white iris and some creeping veronica to it a couple weeks back.
I found this nice African violet. The survivor I have left didn’t fare well over the winter with all the neglect. It’s alive but…. So I “need” another one I can work on killing…
I found European ginger. Mine had been transplanted 2 years ago during the construction and had not survived. I also got 3 more lady’s mantles. This is another one I manage to kill, so of course I “need” more.
I forgot I also got more parsley at the first sale. There’s so much room in the Big garden my intern and I decided to try horseradish. It will need a permanent place, probably in the north end of the garden.
My intern’s little brother had gone with us and her sister came to the house after being at the stable down the road all morning. They stayed ‘til mid afternoon and were a good distraction for this sad old lady.
Sunday was a really bad day, but I finally pulled myself together to try to mow the yard. It’s an effort to try to keep tick environments to a minimum as they are bad after a mild winter.
Friends I’d not seen in years and decades arrived unexpectedly late morning and we visited for a couple hours. Then I got the mowing done, a shower, and got myself ready to go to a dinner hosted by another widow and her daughter.
It was on a farm way up in the hill towns and very cool to see their operation. There were new gardens and 3 week old broiler chicks, lots of dogs and a new baby and a toddler. It was a pleasant evening and I got home late (for me) but it kept me from diving deeply into grief for a while.
Monday I took a day more to get myself together, just planning to do laundry or not much of anything. The carpenter will return on Tuesday.
