Friday started with rain. My helper friend was here and I set him to cleaning bookcases on the second floor. I went through the one at the head of the stairs and took out the ones I want to discard. I’ve got to take them off inventory and put them on BuyNothing. The boxes on the left need to be unpacked and repacked for the attic. Neither got done on Friday.
My helper friend got this one cleaned out, books vacuumed and shelves dusted and polished. Then he moved into the bedroom and got 2 smaller ones done too. There are 2 more small ones to do in there.
This is the start of the deep cleaning that never happened last year. The whole second floor has to be done, 6 rooms.
The carpenter had picked up my lamp I’d had to send out for repair. I usually fix them myself, but this swing arm one defeated me. So I got it hung up, a latch on the hall bifold door to keep it shut, and a few other little jobs that had been waiting for a long time.
I went out with the carpenter when he left to go to the bank and the storm was getting worse. By the time we were coming home, it was hard to see the road and the wind had picked up a lot. Sheets of rain were blowing across areas. I got really soaked dashing from the car to the house, about 25’.
By then I was very tired and took a long nap. Just when I got up my intern and her friend arrived. It’s my intern’s birthday and it was good to see her so I could give her the birthday present. We sat and talked and worked on the puzzle for a good while, and then she had to dash off to other birthday doings.
Dusk was falling a bit later and I noticed just about all the leaves had blown off in the storm. The tree had been half full of leaves when we finished cleaning out the Small garden Thursday afternoon.
Fortunately, it looks like the wind blew most of the oak leaves elsewhere and the Small garden isn’t too bad.
The magnolia lost just over half of its leaves and a good many landed in the newly cleaned out Big garden.
The storm brought in cold air and it will not be as warm or clear as it’s been for the last 2 weeks. Rain comes four times by Thanksgiving and cold temps day and night. Threats of snow already too.
I’ve not figured out what I’m doing on Saturday. It’s much too wet to go to the gardens and more rain to start at 2PM. I’ve no shortage of inside jobs, those boxes of books and dishes for a start. I did get the clam casserole made finally last night, and maybe I’ll get the pumpkin pudding done today. And there’s lots of French toast to be made and frozen, so no shortage of stuff to do.
