Crabapple buds
On Sunday morning I didn’t get up until 6AM. I wasn’t moving too fast. I’d made a list of about 10 things to get done. But mostly what I got done was take a shower and fold lots of paper towels for window washing on Monday. I also got some photos.
It was a cold windy day after lots of rain on Saturday. Everything burst into life with the rain. Dandelions popped up all over, and I was pleased to see the violets making a slow comeback all over the yard. I used to have thousands of them before construction in 2019.
So far, the garlic is doing very well in the Small garden.
My #3 intern and Tom, his dad, were to arrive around 1PM. Tom was going to do some work on the Kubota while his son helped me.
Our first job was to figure out how to hang the long frame and where to hang it. It took quite awhile before we were mostly satisfied with how it looked.
Then we had to hang the 5 smaller frames and that was a bit easier.
And finally we hung the 2 small pictures at either end of the long frame.
I really wanted to hang the plaque from his memorial but there just wasn’t any room left.
Once we’d finally gotten all the frames as we mostly wanted, I took him out to show him the next job.
This is where we dump the ashes from the wood stoves. It’s not been cleaned out in years and was really heavy and wet. So he set to it with the wheelbarrow and shovel and rake and got it cleaned up.
There’s an explosion of color and flowers over in the Little Trees row.
The North Star cherry has tons of buds, so just maybe I’ll get fruit this year.
I’d had my son bring up the screen door from the cellar. Because of where it was, I didn’t pay attention to what it was. It wasn’t until I had finished vacuuming it, that I realized I had the wrong door.
So he took it back down stairs and brought up the right one. I got that one vacuumed and hung. It’s on the bedroom door to let air flow in the summer, but to keep a certain cat out.
Once my #3 intern had the ash pile moved, he went up to the barn to see how his dad was doing. His dad had finished, so they left shortly after.
I was pretty exhausted and just sat and watched TicToks until bedtime. It was to be pretty warm on Monday, so I didn’t have a fire.
Monday I have 13 windows to wash in the office and the living room. I have a helper coming for 4 hours, so hopefully we will finish them. I have a LOT of prep to do before he gets here at 8AM. I doubt I’ll get anything else done.
