Transcription supervisor
On Tuesday morning I was up at 6AM, fed the cat, and started on my post. Once that was up, I got the shades up, the stoves set, and started on the transcription. I finished the last of the seed starting notes and started on the remaining garden bed notes. I was closely supervised.
My brother came down around 8:30AM and said there were big tracks coming out of the swamp. I tried to see them from the first floor but really couldn’t. So I grabbed the camera and headed to his room upstairs. Something big had come out of the swamp. I got my photos and headed down to the computer, and sure enough, I found very similar tracks.
Apparently at least one bear has broken hibernation. Fortunately it headed due south with no inclination to head east where the feeders are. I’ve had a bear take out my feeders once before in the first week of March. I’m hoping I can feed out the last bag of seed, which should run out around the first of March, without the bear taking out the feeders.
I’ve hung them as high as I could, but they are still within reach of the bears. Sigh….
I got ready for the day and resumed work on the transcription until my helper friend arrived at 10:30AM. He did a few chores, and watered the house plants. In the course of doing that, he discovered the ponytail plant in the office had burst another cache pot.
So I measured what the next size would be and ordered a new one from Lowes. He then left to do errands and pick up the new pot.
When he got back, we tried to transfer the plant from one pot to the other. As you can see, it was already pressed against the ceiling. In the process, the top snapped off. So I decided to cut it down to where the new growth was on the stalk.
I got my little handsaw and cut it down and got everything cleaned up. When I went to put the saw away, I got a surprise.
Months ago, I hunted all over the house for the glue gun and glue sticks and it was not to be found. It’s a good size one, like a small portable drill. It was a running joke between me and the contractor that anything we couldn’t find was hiding with the glue gun.
So I had to call him and tell him I’d found it.
The last project of the day was making soup out of the last 2 butternut squashes. My helper friend got the butternut cut up and started on the onions and leeks when he had to go.
I got the rest of the vegetables cut up and the soup started. When it finished I left it on the stove to cool. But it was late afternoon and didn’t cool much before bedtime. So I put it on the cold back porch until morning.
I spent the rest of the evening watching Doc Martin and was in bed by 9PM, stoves going and all.
On Wednesday I have exercise class, laundry to do, get the soup into jars for the freezer, and to finish the transcription. It’s to be gloomy and rainy, in the 30’s. So there’s stove tending too.
