On Monday it was supposed to rain so I planned to get several indoor jobs done. I also made 9 pints of garlic scape pesto, cutting the scapes during a thunderstorm at 7AM. The carpenter’s wife came over to help.
On Tuesday it was supposed to rain, but never did. I did more inside jobs and then got the lawn mowed. I finally made a strawberry shortcake and took it down to the carpenter’s to share with them for supper.
Wednesday we started a run of cool sunny weather and I was out in the Small garden at 6AM to finish the weeding.
I got it done, and then found the butternut squash and gourds and put 1 hill of squash and 2 of gourds in and got them mulched. But the constant up and down took its toll and I was wiped out by 10AM.
I checked the other sprawly plants in the Big garden to see if any hadn’t made it. A zucchini and several cukes needed to be replanted. I got that done. These above I offered on BuyNothing.
I didn’t have a Christmas tree last year, for obvious reasons, and I really wanted a nice wide blue spruce one. I thought perhaps in June or the summer there would be sales on them and I was right. I found what was promised to be spruce and also was very full. So I ordered it.
It arrived shortly after I came in from the garden. So I sat for a while “fluffing” it out to see if it will be what I want. I got the lower third done before I was just too tired. But it is NOT a spruce type at all, so I’m not sure if I will keep it. I didn’t find many spruce types to choose from.
Later I cut a bunch of rhubarb and made a big stockpot of strawberry rhubarb sauce to freeze.
Thursday I will be back out in the Small garden early and see if I can finish the mulching. I want to move onto planting in the New Herb garden.
