These shelves look awful bare compared to the ones in the old root cellar. But a lot of old food has been tossed, so as to make a clean start here.
My general helper was here at 8AM but my helper friend is still under the weather. She started bringing up the last of the canned goods while I washed and disinfected them. Then she brought them down to the new root cellar.
Once we’d cleaned up the mess in the kitchen then we came down to the old root cellar and took all the boxes out and cleaned them up.
Then we swept, washed, and disinfected these shelves. That’s as far as we could go on this side. We are waiting on the shelf liners.
Next we decided to tackle the potato box. We found potatoes in it, tiny red ones. Not sure whose those are…
We scrubbed the top, went out and dug out the pressure treats from behind the Tonka garage, and moved the box to the new root cellar. We debated moving the sandbox but decided against it.
It was well past the first of the month and the house plants needed fed so we decided to get that done. She had a little time left so she got started on the trays we’d need for the next seed starting.
When my friend came mid afternoon she said a purple crocus had opened. I need to clean these gardens out soon. When my friend left, a helper to substitute for my helper friend was here.
She and I made the brine for the corned beef and set it on the back porch to cool. Then we found boxes and made storage for the jars we’d emptied in the morning. She got another tray washed before she had to go.
On Friday my general helper isn’t coming until 10:30. I don’t know if my helper friend will be back at work. If he is it will be 8AM when he appears. We’ll get the beef brining first thing and maybe clean up more boxes from the other side of the old root cellar. We might even be able to organize them some.
If my helper friend is on light duty, I’ll have him make a meal for me. Just have to figure out what…
The hooks for the new supports for hanging onions came in so hopefully my tenant will finish that job on Friday.
