On Thursday I was trying to get as much done as I could before I took the new meds. So I got the laundry folded, the kitchen cleaned up, my post up, paid some bills, and started getting ready for my #4 helper at 1:30PM.
I had planned to start the last of the chicken bone stock, 9.98 lbs of carcasses. So I figured out the amounts of seasonings for each roaster. It was around 9:30AM and I thought I really shouldn’t wait to much after 10AM before taking the meds.
Then I realized it was silly to take something that was going to knock me out when I had a helper coming. So instead I called the doctor’s office to ask about the meds (and never got a call back) and decided to not take them.
So I moved onto getting the vegetables I had upstairs already prepped for chopping. Too much standing and I was sitting down to rest by 11AM.
When she arrived at 1:30PM, we brought up from the old root cellar the onions and garlic and the boxes for putting away jars.
I had started thawing the block of carcasses at 7:30AM and for some reason they weren’t thawing as fast as the previous ones. I managed to get enough off the block so it weighed the 6.66 lbs for the big roaster and put them in with a gallon of water and turned it up high.
They were thawed by the time we added the vegetables. The rest of the carcasses went into the small roaster. We had the roasters started by 3:15PM. We cleaned up the kitchen and moved onto the next job.
I had all the sauerkraut jars that needed to be packed away and taken to the old root cellar. There were some jars to go to the new root cellar too. So we set about getting that done.
She ran some errands for me and the vacuumed the first floor. I went out and fed the birds and then we went out and gathered a basket of little kindling in the woodshed for starting the masonry heater.
She had time left so she washed up 4 of the seed starting trays before heading out at 5:30PM. I had pulled shades and gotten the fires going.
I watched Doc Martin until bed time. Stoves were set for the night, I was in bed by 9PM. My son would check the stock during the night when he did stoves.
On Friday I have exercise class, the kitchen to clean up, laundry to put away, and the job for my #3 helper is washing and repairing roller window shades. I have to clear a flat area for doing this, probably the old island and the laundry room counter. This ought to keep me out of trouble for a while…
