Saturday night was another night interrupted by coughing so I never woke up until 7AM. Someone was quite distressed so I fed him right away. I got the shades up and found it to be quite foggy on the ground with blue sky above. It was supposed to be quite a nice day.
I spent part of the morning finishing the post for the previous several days. My brother came down about 10:30AM and he brought the 2 roasting pans into the kitchen for me.
The fat had not hardened so I skimmed off what I could.
I spent the next couple hours extracting as much stock from the solids as I could. . I’d managed to put a cracked container in the stack, and that made a mess before I could pour it into a good one.
I got 23 quarts for the freezer. It took a while to get to the freezer as I had to wait for my brother to get home and carry the baskets to the cellar. One freezer is now full and I put some of it in the other freezer.
If I decide to make the rest of the chicken stock or more beef bone stock, I’m going to have to do something about getting one of the other freezers going.
I spent the afternoon and evening reading the last of the books I got for Christmas, finishing right at 8PM. I got the house ready for the night and decided to open a birthday present early as I knew it was more books. My sister wanted me to call her if I opened it, so I did it while she was on the phone. It was 2 more Rita Mae Brown books, both from 2008. One was a Christmas book so I started with that one.
On Monday I have exercise class, and an event right afterwards so I have to plan and make a lunch to bring. I might do the small amount of laundry, or not. I have to clean up the kitchen and I think I want to take the holly down. It’s really dry and making a mess. I might put just the ribbons back up, not decided yet.
In the evening I have another farm transition Zoom meeting, so my #1 intern is going to be here to make sure I get started correctly on her laptop.
And if I’m not too tired from the above, I REALLY need to get the gardens planned. I need to talk to my #1 intern and see if she wants to come and inventory seeds with me. I need someone whose handwriting is legible. That’s the next step before I can order seeds.
