I had these chickens in with the pigs. The area is about 3/4 of an acre all fenced in. My plan was to have the chickens in with the pigs So they could eat the bugs, ticks, help brake pest cycles and spread pig manure wile they scratch through it (witch they love to do).
It was all going great for about a month, then this guy showed up! I did not build the chickens a coop. They were sleeping in the trees about 10 yards from the pigs and didn't think a 30 pound fox would want to get close to three 300 pound pigs. But I was wrong.
The fox killed 6 out of the 8 chickens the first night. It looked like he tried to hide 5 of them for later and took one with him.
We learned the hard way that we will not be able to let our chickens be %100 free range because of the predators. Now we make sure to have at least a coop for them to go in and have been adding electric netting as added protection
Would love to hear how you keep predators away from you flock. was thinking about a guard dog. Does anyone use a guard dog? If so how well does it work?
