The Setting
A friend purchased a large parcel of land. It is huge.
One quarter is cleared. The remaining three quarters is forest.
It is just a blank canvas. My friend has a vision of turning it into a permaculture farm.
Permaculture: the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient.
There's a caravan, a small garden, and the frame for s shedlike structure.
We are talking farming land of some 171,000 m2. It is going to need the assistance of quite an army of people to get it established.
The location is about 3 hours from my home. So, camping for a few days is the only way to make the most of the time.
The days have been nice and pleasant. The mornings vary with different levels of coolness and condensation. If it was raining, windy, or a combination of both, then it could have been a more arduous time.
Everyday, was wakeup, eat, work, wander, campfire and sleep.
Past Revisits the Current Me
When I was young one of my relatives has a greenfield block of land, smaller than this place, but still large and isolated.
Never did I feel an interest or an ability in myself to help out. I felt less than capable.
The current version of me pines for the historical version of me. It was an opportunity that I didn't grab.
Here, now, I have the ability to take on the role to assist. My circumstances means that I can find some time to help out - although life commitments makes it more of a dance with time, to find the balance.
Inspires
I've been a fan of for a few years now.
I sent my friend one of his videos and she went out straight away to acquire a trailer.
So, for inpiration, ideas, and all that sort of perspective, then jump over to some superb content.
Ride on Mowers are Fun
My daughter had a ball on the ride of mower.
It was a little beast of a machine. We jumped on it whenever we had a quiet moment to help keep the grass down around the campsite.
I also made a pathway up to the beginning of the forest. It made walking easier and you didn't need to worry about snakes hiding in the long grass.
Bush Exploring
The bush is pretty dense. The path follows paths made my animals.
There are plenty of deer in the State forest. I was able to see a young one but it dashed away before I could take a picture.
I always get lost when I go exploring. I follow, what I think is the track, just to be led astray and into think bush and dead ends.
It was an amazing trip over four days. To be unplugged from civilisation was rejuvenating. My body appreciated the lifting, walking, hammering, and exploring. My muscles feel flexed and empowered.
The drive there and back was a fun road trip with my daughter.
My personal journey of metamorphisis makes these moments very powerful.
