There is an argument around my Discord channel few hours ago on how I do the differences between a male and a female broiler birds. As a farmer I do know this but for the sake of those who do not even know if there is a male or female broiler birds, here I am to explain exclusively with pictures. There are some cases where you will be disturbed and be very interested in knowing how things are been done here. But I tell you, without any more or much stress you can identify the male and female broiler birds with a closely observation.
When I was in the University then, I did two projects on broiler birds and although before then I knew how to differentiate them even if I see them at 2weeks old or 3weeks old. It is very difficult to know or observe them when they are still very young like a day old, two, or three but as soon as they reach two weeks if you are a Pro you may know it.
Now, these are above those age range I mentioned earlier but if you are not still into Agriculture you may not know it. So, I have some pictures to show for my experiment.
Here we go, this is a female Broiler Birds which weighed around 6kg at 18weeks of age. So there are some few things to check if you want to identify the female bird from a male.
Practical knowledge ( Some Few Things To Locate )
The female comb is always shorter even when it spend more than 12 months of age.
The female wattle is also more shorter than that of the male.
The female legs are always so short as well compared to the male legs.
Sometimes, the Feather is also shorter than that of the male
Female Broiler Birds Signs.
The female Cloacal is very wide more than that of the Male broiler birds as shown above.
Often times, female Broiler Birds do grow short as well.
Some more observation, when you see your broiler birds consuming more and more and more. Its a female.
A Little Bad Experience
I was once prepared for my project in sch then and I saw this particular female bird eating, eating and eating I noticed it and use a red Marker to made a sign and I later dropped it. Immediately it went to the feeding trough again and ate more and more. When I got to the Poultry pen and the particular plot where the broiler were kept I saw it dead while eating, it couldn't even move again. It ate till it die off. So, so bad. Females can Consume more and more feeds.
