The other evening we glimpsed a young fawn grazing on some wild edibles in our backyard. There is no shortage of food for deer and other critters around here. We enjoy seeing them wander into the backyard from time to time. There are many small homesteads in the area and larger farms surrounding us so the deer feel pretty safe here.
The dense brush provides plenty of cover and they can move through much of it without being seen. A lot of our property was very wild when we moved here and I've been working to get it cleared out a bit more.
White tail deer are the most common found here in central Oklahoma, with its cousin the mule deer more common north towards Kansas. They will eat your crops if they find them. They came through one night and ate half a row of my beans.
While beautiful to look at and watch, they can become a pest if enough of them find your crops. Luckily deer are good to eat so you can pay them back for destroying your hard earned crops.
Have you seen deer on your property? Are they a pleasure or pest to you? Let me know and thanks for upvoting!
