I hauled some more mulch and compost to amend the soil and start a no till garden combined with the square foot garden method.
I am sharing our videos and articles from the time we moved on to our new 18 acre homestead to the present. This will give you the background to our story. When we get caught up, I will continue to share our daily videos and articles as we make them.
We had to till the soil this one time to break up the earth and destroy weeds. Then we tilled in some aged compost to get some nutrients in the otherwise pure sandy soil. This will be the only time we till our garden.
We are combining the back to eden no till garden method with a modified square foot garden method. The back to eden method uses compost and mulch to build up the soil through the years. This adds nutrients and blocks weeds.
The square foot garden method uses 4 x 4 foot square garden plots. We took out the pathways in between and use 4 foot wide plots. This allows to plant more in less space.
I put the mulch on the garden pathways to prevent weeds from growing through. This gives us a nice place to walk on as well. And as the mulch breaks down, it adds nutrients to the soil.
