I guess I never really understood why my mom would go out and work in her little garden ... she grew rhubarb, swiss chard (which I love), tomatoes ... SO many varieties (good thing I love fresh tomatoes) OH and her horseradish OY VEY did she have horseradish :)
OK so fast forward to 2017 - we (hubby and myself) have a home with about 1/2 acre. We make the most of the back yard (garden) and we have also tilled around the back boundary and have planted hardy kiwi there and then on the other side we have lilacs, smoke trees and a few other varities. Also in the back we have 4 apple trees (only 2 years old), 2 pear )again only 2 years old) and 2 plum (yep you guessed it - 2 years old !!! ) We had a peach back there but when hubby moved it due to it being in the way of where he was planting the hardy kiwi's - it didn't make it :( We haven't given it it's last rights yet - not sure what he's waiting for ! BUT never fear - we have a new peach tree in the front yard !!!
SO for the last 3 years we have been using the BTE method in our garden (for those that don't know BTE equates to Back To Eden and it has worked GREAT for us. Yes there are the occasional weed but not like it was prior to doing it this way.
This was a small harvest from last Sunday - our youngest daughter, son-in-law and 3 yr old grandson came up and Saber (our grandson) helped picked veggies :)
We have been using cattle panels for the tomatoes to grow up against, as well as the beans and cucumbers. The beans - well hubby put the cattle panel into a hoop type thingie (now don't laugh - I'm positive that's a master gardener term !! ) and the beans grow up and over the hoop - check it out !
We've already harvested most of the garlic - there are a few more varieties out there we need to dig up. MORE than 2 people will use in a year - that's for sure, but hey, at least we won't be bothered by dracula ! Trust me - that table is FULL !!!
SOOO I'll just post a few of my pics and let you drool as you gaze on such an awesome garden
NOTE .... this horseradish came from starts I received from my mom probably around 1999-2000 time frame and then also from my Aunt Annette (moms sister) possibly around 2001.
Stay tuned for episode 2 and you just may have a chance to check out the flowers !!
