Hello folks of Steemit! Good Morning!
Today I would like to inform you all about the delicious fruit called the Longan, Latin name Dimocarpus longan. Cousin of the lychee, some have said that the longan has inferior taste to the lychee, but both are delicious in my opinion.
Let me first start off by showing you my three young saplings I have growing in my yard. I have been purposefully pruning them short because they can grow to be up to 35 feet in height, but can be pruned and kept at the height you desire (about 10 ft.).
This is my largest specimen (about 2.5 feet tall)
2nd largest sapling
3rd largest
These have been fairly simple for me to grow from seed.
Here is some information I pulled from Wikipedia concerning the Longan.

Here is some information I've pulled from Charles R. Boning's Florida's Best Fruiting Plants:
The Longan is more forgiving of error than its cousin, the Lychee. It is hardier, more drought tolerant, and more cold tolerant than its cousin. This is the main reason I planted Longan instead of Lychee. I know that we can get near freezing temperatures in the winter.
I hope you all learned something today about Longans that you didn't already know!
Many thanks for stopping by, Steemians!
