I've finally found one of the exact books I've been looking for.
In fact it's actually a book that has been in our family for a while. I remember as a child my grandfather gave this book to our family and it used to sit on our book shelve. I only had a passing interest as a child and remember looking through it on occasion. I've been looking for something similar at local bookstores, but have been unable to find one and hadn't yet resorted to online shopping.
But just yesterday my mom was going through her storage container to find some books for the kids when she happened upon this and though it would interest me with my new passion for plant > identification and foraging. Needless to say I wasn't much fun at dinner tonight, which my head in the book.
It's really great, it has sections on trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses, sedges, ferns, liverworts, mosses and lichens and it's all local plants!
I really like the way it's laid out, with the photo of the leaves and tree truck, as well as sketches of the leaves, trees, buds, flowers and seeds. It's really going to be a great resource to identify some of the trees around the yard.
The shrubs are displayed in much the same way and it's great how they are sorted by type and growth pattern at not just alphabetical so it will be much more intuitive to flip though while I'm out trying to ID some plants.
It has great glossary and intro pages for each section so you can properly understand the terminology they are using the describe and classify the plants and structures of them.
Heck even the grass section is quite comprehensive.
