A tense political argument is said to have broken out between the suspect and a family near CityPlaza mall in the Tai Koo district. The attacker then took a knife from a bag and assaulted the group.
One of the victims was described as lying unconscious in a pool of blood, while others sustained only minor injuries.
The assailant was reportedly stopped by an angry crowd which surrounded and beat him until police arrived.
Photos taken during the incident appear to show the perpetrator biting off part of the ear of one of his victims. The latter is claimed to be a district councilor.
In another photo, a person – supposedly the perpetrator – is seen lying on the ground, bloodied and surrounded by a crowd.
