An Aswang (a vampire like creature) Encounter
It is so hard to say what really is Aswang because it seems like a demonic creature that is uniquely found in the Filipino spirit-world. The articles about them is rare and if there is it's in the tabloid material then. But the general definitions that have been given is that its like a flying vampire with wings that are said to flap loudly when far away but goes on silent-mode when nearby.
They are called in different names in different regions of the Philippines. Related creatures include the manananggal - a human form that fly half body at night to find their victim, and the tiktik - it's like also a human creature and form a bat to follow a pregnant woman to their victim.
As far as to remember, the first actual Aswang or vampire story that was heard is when his godson text him the minister asking for prayer cover for his pregnant wife.
Here is the account of the story:
They lived before in Sta. Mesa, Manila, and his wife is a two months pregnant to their first child. They lined up to a tricycle terminal when they heard a sound like "tik" or "eek" that seems like following them even they are already riding on the tricycle going home. That night, the "tik" sound became faster and sounded like it was coming from theirroof.
They were alarmed about this, that's why they go outside in their apartment to check what it was. It seemed to come from the terrace where the laundry is being hang and stacked. They thought it's only a rat that scavenging the trash. But when checked it in the morning, the trashcan was still upright, and no trash messing around.
The following midnight, that "tik" sound can be heard again. When it's morning, two of their neighbors who don't know each other visited to tell them what they saw from terrace: one man which seems have wings and an eyes looks like a blazing of fire.
He wanted to face this creature to protect his wife and the baby in her womb. Because that's the story they've heard about those aswang --- that they liked to eat babies. But the truth is, he doesn't know how to fight this aswang. It is not a physical enemy. So the following day, they went to stay at his mom's house temporarily, to be safe and equipped for the next step.
His mom is a highly spiritual Christian believer. It told him to consecrate their place, and play some Christian worship songs. Which they did. Together with his wife they studied and meditated on the Bible every night before sleeping. They also asked their Christian friends to always include them in their prayers.
From that moment on, there's no attack from that demon. If there was one thing that they learned from that episode of their family life, it is this --- that Jesus is truly powerful and that we should be living our lives for Him. That "at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow," even the knees of demonic spirits! How blessed are they to be believers in Jesus!
From Neil's story, we can glean a few things about aswang in Filipino (a vampire like creature). One, they can stalk people silently. Two, that they are not necessarily female, as is always the way they are presented in movies. Three, that they are afraid of Jesus. What great comfort! What great power that resides in Jesus!
The closest involvement of him to Neil's (his godson) situation was to pray from afar, calling him on the cellphone and warred against the spirit through intercession. Little did the minister know that he himself would have a more face-to-face encounter with the world of aswang.
In this part of the story we did know that demon or evil creature do exist. Those unnatural beings that we often heard on urban story, folklore and oldies bedtime story is then truly exist and based on what they really knew or encounter themselves. Hair raisings then creep into my body, what if they just out there, listening, watching on our own backyard!
Well, in the next episode is more exciting a face to face encounter of the minister to the aswang.
