In response to an Urban Legend challenge by , here is a description of the first Urban Legend I was ever told. I was maybe seven, and I heard it from an older sibling or maybe one of their friends (it would have been more than 50 years ago).
It was, of course, the Hook-Hand legend, very popular in the late 60s/early 70s. In the version that I heard, two teenagers are parked on Lover's Lane, making out. They talk about a series of murders that have been taking place in their area, rumored to be done by a deranged man with a hook instead of a hand on one side. The boyfriend says that The Hook story is just gossip and not true.
Unbeknownst to them, The Hook is watching them from the woods. The Hook slowly begins to creep up on them while they are otherwise engaged. They finish making out and decide to go home. They pull away quickly, and the boyfriend drives the girl home. He tells her "see, The Hook didn't get us."
But when they get out of their car, they find that The Hook's bloody hook is dangling from the driver's side door. The Hook had been trying to open the door when the boyfriend pulled away, ripping his hook off.
Okay, that's my legend. I'd be interested in hearing about other versions of The Hook story. I remember that it was an early Supernatural episode.
