I live in North Georgia and have a small gaited horse named Remington who is in a shared pasture with 5 other horses.
With this storm system on us and wind chills in the negative digits, some people don't ever blanket their horses and some do.
The reason why some don't blanket is because the horse gets used to being more comfortable and then may not vigorously grow their own winter coats and when you have a pastured horse you really want them to be self sufficient.
With the extreme winds and cooler than normal temperatures and record breaking lows, I have opted to blanket him since new years eve.
I am actively tracking the weather and am thinking about removing it on Friday afternoon so he can safely get a bit of a chill and continue to grow and keep his own winter coat. Fingers crossed!❄️😱🤞
