Sodium bicarbonate is hardly known today, but as a universal household remedy it can be used in many different ways. Some may still know it as Bullrichsalz or Kaisernatron. It is usually made from common salt, in which chlorine is exchanged for carbonate, and there are very few natural deposits. The main component of baking powder, for example, is sodium hydrogen carbonate. Sodium bicarbonate is contained in many medicinal springs and mineral waters.
Baking soda is environmentally friendly and non-toxic, which is not completely unimportant if you have children or pets. It can be used for many different things, as an all-purpose household cleaner, as a baking agent, in cosmetics as deodorant, and it is also effective against heartburn.
Amazingly effective against blocked drains, I pronounced it myself, and it actually works.
Quote from natron applications
Clean blocked drains with sodium bicarbonate and vinegar. In combination with vinegar, sodium bicarbonate is a natural alternative to chemical drain cleaners. Add one or two tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate directly into the spout, and pour half a cup of household vinegar afterwards. Foaming and later slight bubbling (for up to 15 minutes) loosen any dirt adhering to the pipe. When the reaction has subsided, rinse with water.
It is also relatively inexpensive, Kaisernatron is available almost everywhere. Most of the cleaning agents used in the household can be replaced cost-effectively.
