You are right that Steemit, per se, is a good enough social platform, where we can have fun (certainly better than Facebook or Twitter, in my opinion), but on the other hand, the whole premise of Steemit's existence is for users to receive money for posting - and this is something most of us are missing at the moment.
Think of the following - why would people spend time (time = money, right?) here, instead on Facebook (where their friends are) or Twitter (where their favorite celebrities and brands post). Steemit's incentive is twofold - decentralization (data freedom) and cash for everyone. But the more people join, the more data is reposted from the net.
In order not to copy the entire net on Streemit, we have curation. 99% of curators are minnows and receive nothing for their work. The remaining 1% of whales can't curate the entire flow of new posts either.
So what we are left with is junk with the occasional good article posted here and there. Most of them remain unnoticed - because why upvote an article from an unknown author, when minnows prefer to spend their 20 vote daily limit on popular authors - to get that important cent for their click.
The current philosophy of the system is flawed and I hope it's addressed soon - because I really enjoy this new social network, and I'd like to see it progress in the right direction.
