What is death really? Why do we die??
It is a matter of seconds...one moment a father is looking at a picture of his family that he left, to work as a merchant sailor. Reminiscing their happy moments while he is at home and how happy they will be, when he return with a lot of gifts for each and everyone of them. Then a phone call from a relative came. It is both shocking and unbelievable. His whole family died on a tragic vehicular accident on the way to visit a recreational park.
Its only a matter of seconds... a mother took her sick daughter to the nearest hospital because she was suffering fever for about a week, although the fever is not so high, she was wondering why the illness is lingering more than usual...she is sitting at the waiting room while her child is supposedly asleep in the hospital ward...then a nurse came to her telling her that her child has died. Her daughter. whot was just laughing with her a while ago on the way to the hospital is now gone. The nurse mistakenly injected a medicine to her daughter that induced a hypovolemic shock causing her to die (her daughter has an allergy with one of the med's ingredients).
It was just a matter of seconds, a family was happily celebrating the new year's eve, when the father of the family suddenly fell on the floor, dead. - A stray bullet of someone who thought that it is so much more fun to celebrate New Year by firing their gun recklessly, which hit that man in the head.
Death and being alive has this unbelievably thin demarcation of time, a matter of seconds. When the change happen, of existence to non-existence. And no one can undo what happened- although it's just a matter of seconds past.
Why do we die? Why should we lose our loved ones? Or why should they lose us? Why should we suffer it? Why?!!!
When God first made humans, there was no talk about death...we are meant to live indefinitely...not even growing old and getting weak exist. Unless-the first humans do the thing that they are explicitly warned from doing. The warning goes something like : "If you eat that fruit, you will DIE the same day."
That particular action have a definite consequence and that is death (along with so many other things).
It is similar to all other natural laws of God. Like: "If you put you hand on the flame it will burn", "if you hit the pavement when you jump from a high place, you will be hurt and even die..." Like all physical and natural laws laid out by God, that law is inescapable...they will operate accordingly without further supervision or enforcement. When we act, we will reap the consequence. Some call it Karma, they are actually God's laws operating faithfully.
The first humans were informed of the truth: "if you eat that fruit you will die." So why will a beneficiary of so much from an all powerful benefactor, behave this way and lose so much in the process? The truth of the matter is also a command. So this is a direct disobedience from someone who provides everything. Ingratitude to the maximum level. Why? The reason is because of lies and greed that resulted to disobedience.
What were the lies? Here is the excerpt from Genesis Chapter 3 GNV
The snake was more clever than all the wild animals the LORD God had made. He asked the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must never eat the fruit of any tree in the garden'?"
The woman answered the snake, "We're allowed to eat the fruit from any tree in the garden
except the tree in the middle of the garden. God said, 'You must never eat it or touch it. If you do, you will die!'"
"You certainly won't die!" the snake told the woman.
"God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened. You'll be like God, knowing good and evil."
Like the conmen of today, the evil using the serpent used halftruths, diversionary tactics and emotional manipulations.
He persuaded Eve to carry a conversation with him by saying things that will need reasoning instead of just saying yes or no. While the evil know that there is ONLY ONE FRUIT PROHIBITED, he still asked "FROM ANY TREE?", a half truth.
He employed a blatant lie: "You certainly won't die!", because he knows they certainly will.
And another half truth: "when you eat it your eyes will be opened. You'll be like God, knowing good and evil." Because, while humanity will be SIMILAR to God in the sense that they will know what is "good and evil" the effects of this knowledge on them is not the same as its effect on God Himself because unknown to Eve, it will really result in their deaths.
What about the GREED? Where's the greed in that incident? God forbids humanity to even covet what is not theirs, and in this case "being like God" in the sense of His being the creator and all powerful is the thing being coveted by Eve.
Therefore, it is now understandable why a seemingly simple act of "eating a fruit" resulted in the death of not only our first human parents, but also of all of humanity that inherited this basic genetic and moral flaw.
Humanity who used to be fully connected with the source of LIFE that should have enabled it to live indefinitely has now been pulled away and will slowly lose the life it has. But was it not said that they "will die the same day??", yes it did. The one who declared that statement is God, therefore the measure of day will be in God's measure of time. In God's point of view, they did not even finished His DAY OF REST, indeed they died on that same day.
This is the reason why we die. This is the result of our first parent's disobedience-- the loss of indefinite life.
Not because we are being punished too, but rather because this is the consequence of the actions of those first parents to the state of human existence born from them.
We now know the reason why we die. How about the question of what happens when we die?. Is it true that we go to "purgatory, heaven or hell"??
