When I was younger I looked forward to the fall of the first leaves so which signified that hunting season was just around the corner.
Throughout my early years of hunting I would go bird hunting for Partridge and then would bow hunt for Big Game animals such as Whitetail Deer, Moose, and Bear. Where I really got my feet wet on hunting was when we moved to Maine when I was a young teen. I really enjoyed those early years of hunting on my own. I remember when I got my first Partridge and I also remember my first Deer harvest. What awesome memories.
A few years ago I really got into firearm season and if fact I would go out to Oklahoma to hunting with a really close friend which I would do for many years. Although I really enjoyed hunting with a center fire rifle I also had in the back of my mind the years that I would hunt with traditional equipment such as a bow and a muzzleloader.
So a few years ago I invested in a good Muzzleloader and continued to Bow Hunt. This was getting back to the Basics as far as Hunting is concerned and I really began to enjoy this way of hunting. For the woods are not as crowded with blaze organ and you get to see the travel patterns of the Game animal you are hunting for in my case it was Whitetail Deer. I was able to watch the Deer and the routes they were traveling as well as the area they frequented for their feeding grounds. There were also some comical times while being in a deer stand during Archery Season. I remember watching some Beavers that were busy building their den for the winter and at one point they took time out to play around by sliding down the river bank down into the water. So these were times of great joy being able to be out in the field with just me and my Bow.
So as I get older the more I want to use traditional equipment. With traditional equipment there is less to go wrong with the equipment itself and to be honest it is a whole lot of fun to boot.
Yes there has been much debate about modern hunting equipment versed traditional and to be honest both arguments have their valid points however the most important aspect of hunting is three things spending time with the Lord Jesus the creator of the universe out in His creation, having time to reflect on the things that matter, and the bonus is putting meat in the freezer for the family. So it does not matter wither you use a modern day rifle or a black powder rifle either way you get to enjoy the full extent what God has creation.
To close this blog entry it seems appropriate to end it with Third Day's music video from Youtube "God of Wonders".
