Should you expect anything less from Cummins, one of the world leaders in Heavy Duty Trucking. Tesla has some catching up to do.
Got to admit it takes a lot of power to get these trucks moving especially when they got a full load to take across the country in record time as always. Now it won't be blowing out smoke and waking up the neighbourhood when they drive your favourite goods to the places they need to be.
"The 18,000-pound tractor cab, dubbed AEOS after one of the four-winged horses driving the chariot of the Sun God, Helios, across the sky in Greek mythology, is just a demonstration model. But the Class 7 urban hauler tractor is fully operational and capable of hauling a 22-ton trailer."
Now that's power. It doesn't have much for distance though. They said it can only go 100 miles before it needs to be recharged. I expect the One Hour will take a considerable amount of time longer to power up rather than fill the tank with fuel which might cause a lot of lost time, we'll see what the future holds when the time comes they are claiming by 2020 to get that down to 20 minutes..
It's pretty sleek looking too. I wonder if they are able to replicate the rumble of the motor that trucks have become so well know for. Being able to hear the motor roar and know without seeing which engine coming around the corner next. It will certainly have it's own unique sound just hope it's loud enough to be heard.
Soon they will be automated. I'd like to see how they program it to reverse up hill around 90 degree corners while dodging workers and on the right side is a bottomless cliff. Yep, skynet is coming, it's already born it's learning and waiting.
