I have been photographing weddings for over 8 years now. Although I still enjoy a traditional wedding day, my traveling heart has always been restless to photograph a wedding abroad. I love nature, I love finding new places, and it's true, I still love a bride and groom in their wedding garb.
When a friend I met over 10 years ago while traveling in Tanzania announced her engagement, I wrote her and told her I would go anywhere to photograph the wedding. I was overjoyed when she wrote me back, describing my dream: an elopement in Iceland! I felt as if I had won the photographer's lottery! Just the two of them, myself and my sister, traveling the island up north and taking pictures all along the way! The months leading up she shared some of their favorite places in Iceland, a place they had visited twice already. We dreamed up photo ideas and by the time we embarked I was completely inspired.
The morning after arriving we met up in a tiny cabin, seeing each other for the first time in over 10 years! I was introduced to her soon-to-be husband as we again chatted over all the amazing stops we would make on this epic roadtrip. I was smitten with them! They were up for everything, no matter how uncomfortable, strange, or inconvenient, I had found my adventurous couple!
Over the next 10 days we drove in a near circle around the entire island. I could see why they had returned for such a momentous occasion. Iceland is a delight to the photographer and nature lover, seemingly all of Earth's natural wonders contained within it's shores! Here is an image from Fjaðrárgljúfur, where the green is straight from a fairy tale and where from above, little fingers of earth stretch into the gorge and turquoise waters below. Thank you Kylene and Adam for the adventure my photographer's heart has yearned for!
