When I first arrived, I was nervous and scared because of all of the misconceptions that we hear about when we hear of China. As it turns out, everyone is friendly and kind to me. It seems like language and culture are the only differences between myself and the people of China. Although I haven't been here long, I've made some local friends (who speak English) and we're doing great together.

The most inconvenient thing about this place is the language barrier. I felt awkward when I came to China with my husband because I didn't prepare properly in Korea. Most signs are in Chinese and everyone, aside from a few foreigners and English speaking Chinese, speaks only Mandarin. But of course!This is China! Fortunately, it seems to be a little easier to survive thanks to translator cell phone apps. What a convenient world!

I've become very close to one of my Chinese friends, and we're planning on doing a friendly language exchange soon. I'll teach her Korean and she'll teach me Chinese. If my Mandarin skills become more proficient and I get a better understanding of the culture, the time here will be even more fun and meaningful ^^

처음 이곳에 왔을때는 제가 들어왔던 편견들이나 큰 사고의 뉴스 때문인지 낯설기도 하고 무섭기도 했었는데, 막상 와서 보니 한국사람들과 다르지 않게 다들 정이 많고 저에게 친절합니다. 그저 언어와 문화만 조금 다를 뿐인것 같았어요. 이 곳에 온지 아직 얼마 되지 않았음에도 불구하고 저는 몇명의 (영어를 할 줄 아는)현지인 친구를 사귀었고, 지금 함께 잘 지내고 있습니다.

생활하는데 가장 불편한 점이 있다면 언어문제 입니다. 한국에서 준비를 제대로 못하고 남편을 따라 중국에 와서 아직 서툰게 많거든요. 간판도 대부분 한자로 되어있고 사람들도 다 중국어로 소통을 하니까요. 당연한 이야기이죠. 이 곳은 중국이니까요.^^; 그래도 다행인게 손에 놓지 않고 들고다니는 휴대폰 속 번역기 어플 덕에 조금 더 수월하게 생존을 하고 있는 듯 합니다. 참 편리한 세상임을 다시한번 느낍니다.

중국인 친구중 한명과는 급속도로 가까워져서 곧 함께 언어를 교환하며 공부 할 계획을 세우고 있습니다. 저는 그 친구에게 한국어를 가르쳐 주고 그 친구는 저에게 중국어를 가르쳐주기로요. 언어가 늘고 문화를 배우고 이해하다보면 더 즐겁고 의미있게 시간을 보낼 수 있지 않을까요?! ^^
