Daily report on support of war victims from "ILYSA RAZOM".
It's Gostomel!
A town in Kiev region, Ukraine and its population is approximately 17,500.
And the thing is, that on 6 March 2022, Gostomel was awarded the honorary distinction of "Hero-City of Ukraine" by Decree of the President of Ukraine for the mass heroism and resilience of citizens revealed in the defense of their town!
There are short stories of people who was ocupied by invaders:
- Tetyana, a resident of Gostomel:
"This house near the factory, the first one, it was my house there... (crying) it got bombed... What can I tell you? No help... There were two tanks in my yard and I couldn’t do anything".
- Alexander, a resident of Gostomel:
"Armed men took everyone's phones. They broke them right away, kicked them, bayoneted them with knives... Then the men who seemed suspicious to them were taken away. They took off their shirts and looked at their shoulders if the guys did not have blue marks left by submachine guns, if they weren’t soldiers… But there were only civilians left in the town. There were snipers on the roofs, in another house was the headquarters, there were a lot of occupiers. Couple of them broke my car. I came up, I saw my car being broken down... I asked them, what were they doing? I am 55 years old, I earn my living, I feed my family with it. But the door was opened, and they said nothing, just took a pickaxe and carried on breaking the window... Honestly? I almost got knocked down...".
- Anonymous, a resident of Gostomel:
"We've been sitting in the basement hungry for four days. We had no bread, nothing. People with guns started breaking into our basements. There were gates in the yard and they started jumping in with machine guns... They said: ‘Come out, we won't touch you! Happy women’s day, females! (March 8 events took place) I thought, thank you... we will remember this "holiday" for the rest of our lives".
- Oleg, a resident of Gostomel:
"Didn't you come for the corpses? Because my neighbor died..."
Such a question was asked to our team by a 64 years old man. The situation in Gostomel is critical. No water, no light, and everything is bombed. Even a little companionship and a hug was important to people. All they saw these weeks were the walls of the basement. All they heard were explosions. All they experienced these days was fear and pain. Ilysa Razom was able to feed about 60 Gostomel residents yesterday. It was not easy, because it was impossible to drive on small streets, they were mined. Sometimes we took food to the old people's homes as many could no longer walk. We also brought medicines and hygiene products.
