Today I am going to tell you a Chinese moral story that i heard in my school days, hope you like it.
There is a village in China, a man living with his wife and child, his name is Zengzi. Zengzi is a very honest and trustworthy person. He following Confucius
One day his wife was going to the market to buy provisions when their 4 year old child began to cry that he wanted to go with her. The mother in order to calm the child said, "Hush, I'll be back soon and If you listen to me, I will kill a pig and cook braised pig feet and stewed pork soup for you when I get home." the child calm down as he listened his mother's words.
When she returned, Zengzi seized the pig, the pig's feet were tied to the rope, and prepared to kill it. When his wife saw this, she became nervous "Hey what are you doing! I was only consoling the child, don't take it for real."
Zengzi looked at hi wife for a while and said, "You promised him that after returning from the market you would kill the pig, so now you have to keep that promise".
"He is too small, he won't care"
"The child is small but he has a mind, and will imitate you, we should not lie to our children. Today we must kill a pig otherwise we will indirectly teach him how to cheat people."
"Oh! Really?"
Yes, and if he understands that you are cheating him he will never trust you again. How terrible a consequence, we have to teach him the right way.
"I am sorry" his wife lowered her head and then Zengzi raised the knife and killed the pig. He was the child's first teacher.
