Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a 2017 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name. The film is the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy and the fifteenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, alongside an ensemble cast including Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Kurt Russell.

The plot of the film picks up where the first Guardians of the Galaxy left off, with the team on the run from the law and trying to protect their newfound family member, Baby Groot. They are hired by Ayesha, the leader of the Sovereign race, to protect some valuable batteries from an interdimensional monster. However, things go awry when Rocket steals the batteries, leading to a conflict with the Sovereign and the eventual revelation that Quill's father is the powerful Celestial being, Ego.

Ego reveals that he created a planet for Quill and invites him to join him there, but Quill's suspicions are aroused when he learns that Ego has been killing other Celestial beings. Quill and the other Guardians team up with Yondu and his Ravagers to stop Ego and save the universe from destruction.

The film explores themes of family, loyalty, and the consequences of power. The character development of Quill and the other Guardians is central to the plot, as they are forced to confront their pasts and the true nature of their relationships. The special effects and action sequences in the film are impressive, and the soundtrack, featuring classic 1970s and 1980s songs, adds to the film's retro aesthetic.
