Consumer Protection means to protect the consumers from unusual, exploiting and unfair trade practices of sellers, manufacturers, trades and the service providers.

A consumer has right to be protected against the goods and services which are hazardous for life and health of one.
2.right to be informed
The consumers has a full right to know about the complete information about thr product he wants to buy including all the ingredients, date of manufacturing, price, quantity etc.
3.Right to choose
The consumers has the freedom to choose a variety of products at different prices. A manufacturer should also provide different type of product a consumer wants to buy.
4.Right to heard
The consumers has a right to file a complaint and in case of dissatisfaction with a certain good or service.
5.Right to seek redressal
The consumer has a right to get relief in case if the product falls to meet its expectations .
6.Right to consumer education
The consumers has a right to acquire all the knowledge and to be a well aware consumer throughout life .
Consumer responsibilities
He should be aware about various goods and services available in the market Buy only standardised goods he should check all the quality. ISI mark for electronic goods, FPO mark on food products, hallmark on jewellery.
He should read all the label carefully all the information about price, net weight, manufacturing and expiry date etc.
He should be honest in the dealings he should buy only legal goods and services and should discourage unscrupulous practice like black marketing etc.

Redressal machinery and remedies
District consumer dispute redressal commission
A consumer cam file a complaint if the value of goods and services does not exceed 1 crore rupees . He can appeal against the state commission on facts of law within a period of 45 days from the say of order.
State consumer disputes redressal commission
The state commission entertains complaints where the value of the goods exceeds 1 crore rupees but does not exceed 10 crore in total.
The national consumer dispute redressal commission
The national commission entertains the complaint where the value exceeds rupees 10 crore . He can appeal against the supreme court within a period of 30 days from the date of order.
