Pase mosque, Panton Labu, North Aceh district was founded on the initiative of a community leader of North Aceh, Muhammad Ansari or familiarly called Harun Kumis, in 1972. In the development process can be said to last very long.

Masjid Raya Pase, Panton Labu, Kabupaten Aceh Utara ini didirikan atas prakarsa seorang tokoh masyarakat Aceh Utara, Muhammad Ansari atau akrab disapa Harun Kumis, pada 1972. Dalam proses pembangunannya bisa dikatakan berlangsung sangat lama.
Pembangunan masjid ini diawali dengan peletakan batu pertama dilakukan Kementrian Agama yang diwakili Dirjen Agama Islam Departemen Agama RI, didampingi tokoh masyarakat Pantonlabu, Teungku Ibrahim Thaib dan Teungku H. M Amin Umar.
Sejak berdiri, masjid yang menjadi basis pengembangan Islam ini menjadi pusat jamaah Al-Jamiatus Samadiyah. Dimana, setiap Jumat malam, ribuan jamaah Samadiyah mendatangidan memadari masjid guna mengumandangkan zikir dan tahlil.
Bagi masyarakat setempat atau Aceh secara umum, masjid yang terletak di jantung kota Panton Labu, Kabupaten Aceh Utara ini, merupakan refleksi dari kejayaan islam pada masa Kerajaan Islam Pase tempo dulu. Hal itu terlihat dengan seni arsitekturnya yang megah.
Cikal bakal berdirinya masjid ini, konon diceritakan, pada tahun 1960-an penggagas berdirinya masjid ini, Harun Kumis menemuki Presiden RI yang pertama Sukarno, dengan tujuan agar di bekas wilayah Kerajaan Pase yang merupakan titik awal penyebaran Islam di nusantara, didirikan masjid.
karena didirikan di bekas wilayah Kerajaan Pase, masjid itu diharapkan menjadi lambang kejaayan Kerajaan Islam Pase. Dari pertemuan dengan Presiden Sukarno tersebut, akhirnya niat suci mendirikan masjid yang megah itu baru terwujud masa Presiden RI ke 2, Soeharto.
Dengan Dip :No.6/XVIII/3/1972, Pemerintah Pusat Republik Indonesia mengucurkan anggaran Rp24 juta. Setelah dibangun dalam rentang waktu yang lama, masjid ini akhirnya berdiri megah dan dikelola secara profesional di bawah badan kemakmuran masjid.
Masjid ini sangat mudah untuk ditemui. Bila steemian melakukan perjalanan darat dari Banda Aceh ke Medan atau sebaliknya, masjid ini persis di pinggir jalan. Jadi tak perlu susah untuk mencarinya. Bila steemian menunaikan ibadah shalat di masjid ini, temukan sensasi yang terasa begitu dalam dan rasa kagum kita akan keindahan masjid itu.
