The history and origins of the discovery of carrion flower begins when the transfer of colonial over Indonesia from the Netherlands to the British Empire in 1818. Governor General Sir Stamford Raffles who at that time held the highest authority over Indonesia to explore the biodiversity in Indonesia by inviting a biologist named Joseph Arnold to exploring an area in Bengkulu.
Sejarah dan asal usul penemuan bunga bangkai diawali ketika pemindahan tampuk kekuasaan penjajahan atas Indonesia dari Belanda ke Kerajaan Inggris pada tahun 1818. Gubernur Jendral Sir Stamford Raffles yang kala itu memegang kekuasaan tertinggi atas Indonesia mendalami keanekaragaman hayati di Indonesia dengan mengajak seorang ahli biologi bernama Joseph Arnold untuk mengeksplorasi daerah Bengkulu.
The exploration, which was originally intended to find new species of animals that had not been classified in the plant classification system, in fact became the history of the discovery of another peculiar flower than the flowers in general. The flower that we now know by the name of the corpse flower.
Tujuan awal eksplorasi ini mulanya bertujuan untuk menemukan jenis hewan baru yang belum diklasifikasikan dalam sistem klasifikasi hewan faktanya justru menjadi sejarah penemuan bunga aneh yang lain dari pada bunga-bunga pada umumnya. Bunga itu yang sekarang kita kenal dengan nama bunga bangkai.
