Satu koloni terdiri dari ribuan semut, dengan berbagai tugas masing-masing, diantaranya semut pekerja, semut pejantan dan ratu semut.
Dengan hidup berkoloni, semut dapat mengusai suatu daerah yang luas untuk bertahan hidup.
Semut itu kuat, mengapa bisa, kalau dilihat dari ukuran tubuhnya tidak mungkin semut itu kuat. Akan tetapi semut termasuk hewan terkuat di dunia, semut dapat mengangkat beban lebih berat dari berat tubuhnya sendiri, menurut sumber dari wikipedia, menyatakan bahwa semut mampu mengangkat beban lima puluh kali lipat dari berat badannya.
