The failing New York Times had some stupid slop in it's pages on the day after May Day normalizing a mainstream racist theory while helping create noise that ensures failed government interventions like perpetual pointless wars and the drug war that doesn't even get drugs off the street will continue unimpeded for many years to come.
Apparently a bunch of unreasonable on the internet think some American girl wearing a dress is cultural appropriations which is somehow impermissible and racist. Richard Dawkins discusses the nature of cultural evolution and a metaphor of culture as genes tiny replicating metrics of culture he termed "memes" in "The Selfish Gene." These unreasonable people don't seem to understand for all people who are not from England we all have appropriated the English language.
In fact the whole basis of the cultural appropriation nonsense is that people should be totally be defined to whatever indigenous culture external actors ascribe to them and then it is racist if they do not conform with the taxonomies elites in government subsidized institutions have chosen for them--ensuring that poverty and the real issues of our time continue to be ignored and not meaningfully dealt with as long as possible.
In fact the failing New York Times article interviewed people from Twitter assuming them to be Asian and thus for some reason having a reason to be upset of someone of a different culture liking an artifact and using an artifact of some other culture.
So in conclusion if you make fun of people who are not like you and mockingly use their products you're probably not a very nice person. But if you are someone who fights windmills and invents controversy and create balkanization over at best very unimportant issues while innocents continue to be murdered without justice or we continue to pack our fellow persons into cages for victimless conduct-- you are probably way less likely to increase aggregate utility than even people who might culturally appropriate in a non nice manner, which is likely a very small amount of those who culturally appropriate. And ultimately either we are all one people and all one race and all free to be who we want. Or we are all different and should remain different and not intermix. Cultural appropriations theory really is a nonsense theory that has interestingly facilitated mainstream endorsement for racism and tribalism embraced by elites. So it goes.
