Socialism does not just fuel corruption, it also drives and maintains that vehicle all year round. They say "absolute power corrupts absolutely", well having a central system of control where the government has access to the states massive resources is like taking an ant to a honeypot and expecting it not to join in the feast, even at the expense of its own life.
A central system like we're increasingly acclimatizing to puts massive resources in the hands of potentially unqualified, unmotivated and questionable individuals who have zero incentive to be productive with these resources except the 'goodness of their hearts'. True to form, countries with more socialist tendencies even outside ours continue to rank highly among the most corrupt in the World, despite an abundance of resources in them.
The Irony about socialist promises is that it captures the ignorant not on the superiority of its procedure, rather, it seeks out already working systems and points out fictional loopholes in them with a false premise of 'cleaning up the mess'. Take the Zimbabwe example, where a once thriving economy has been crippled by an ex dictator who for years portrayed himself as the saviour from non-existent bondage.
Coming closer to home, we will not forget how the military dictators used the premise of a fairer society to come into power only to out-compete each other in emptying the nations treasury; or how businesses only thrive with government support in today's climate, often invloving billions of Currency exchanging hands illegally. While we are still chasing non-existent equality (in poverty), other countries have made great strides enriching themselves in a privately driven economy where the government is driven to the background like it should.
