Poor Venezuela will likely never return to its former glory. The power brokers of the world despise socialism as it was evolving into a system that placed too much power into the hands of the people. This is probably the reason so much of the media points their fingers at socialism as the cause.
However, with el presidente Maduro at the head you have an oligarch who's only power now lies in the army. As long as the army remains fed and happy, Maduro will remain in power, China will continue gobbling up their oil, and the people have little chance of regaining their independence and security. Nearly 1/4 of their population has been displaced in the last few years (I've seen it myself in 15 hour lines at border crossings in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru) and the ones that remain are so hungry and desperate that the fight is quickly leaving them. It's heartbreaking to say the least. I am no economist but I do know as long as countries like China are profiting from the turmoil the situation is quite hopeless for the Venezuelans. My friends in country tell me that secret networks are springing up everywhere to encourage internal bartering systems, communication, security from the military, and localised governance. But these measures are currently flimsy at best and put the participants constantly at risk of execution, disappearance, torture, and worse. During my time in Colombia last year I found that nearly 1/4 of taxi drivers (basically slaves) and and 40% of prostitutes (also slaves) are Venezuelans. Within the country communities are coming together in record numbers to share resources simply for survival sake.
Latin Americans have arguably suffered more than anyone the consequences of colonialism and conquest for the last 500 years. Starting with a Borgia pope, coup after coup, assassinations, Mass murders, corporate acquisition of virtually all of their natural resources and labor force (thanks to the white Satan Milton Friedman and his CIA backers) and now global sanctions and crooked politicians who only seek to control and oppress everyone for the sake of greed.
My impulse is to arm the people, organize them into guerilla units and start popping skulls. The problem is that once that starts it rarely ends well, and violence in and of itself is rarely the answer.
Perhaps a better solution is to simply organize the nation's oil suppliers, food producers, and water distributors into a cohesive unit that will supply the basic needs for the people in order that they themselves can rebuild their country however they wish.
I'm sure this is oversimplification of a very complex situation, but then simple solutions are usually the most effective.
What do yall think?
