The government forces have not only regained the territory lost after the rebel's counterattack, but also took:
- Ma'arr Shamarin
- Kursiyan
- Tall Khatrah
- Tall Mustayef
With this attack, the governemnt forces are less than 2 miles away from the M5 highway and cutting off the rebel controlled territory south of Maarrat al Nu'man. If that happens in the following days and the rebels counter-attack fails, the entire territory south of that town will collapse during the next week.
There is a serious situation developing in the northeastern Syria where the US and Russian troops are engaged in a dick measuring contest - blocking each other on the M4 highway.
A few days ago, the US forces blocked the Russian military convoy in Al Qamishly and today we have a standoff northeast of the town of Tall Tamr:
There's a bit of the game being played between the two sides with the Russians taking over the military outposts that were left behind when Trump ordered the forces to leave the border area a few months ago and the US forces blocking the free movement of the Russian troops in the areas controlled by the Kurdish forces.
While the Russians are there officially invited by the government of Syria, the US forces are there illegally if you care about the international law. But, we all know that USA care not about it.
What worries me here is that one stupid bastard that had a bad day can start WW3.
