May 22 is one of the best days in the Bitcoin calendar. This year it happened in two places at once.
Thanks to PizzaDAO, Bitcoin Pizza Day came alive in Bucharest and Luxembourg: two very different events with the same spirit running through both.
The original story, for anyone who hasn't heard it before: on May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz posted on the Bitcoin Talk forum and offered 10,000 BTC for two pizzas. Someone delivered. That transaction, worth fractions of a cent at the time, became the first documented purchase of a physical good with Bitcoin. Every May 22, the community sits down to eat pizza and remember that moment.
Sixteen years later, the tradition is global.
Bucharest took place at Zen Bar, a venue that is hard to describe without sounding like you're making it up. Custom metal sculptures everywhere, a full-size welded motorcycle on the main wall, a mural of rock legends behind the bar, and a chess board covered in metal pieces sitting under a beer and a slice of pepperoni pizza for most of the night. There was live music, a guitarist and a singer, performing while the room filled up with builders, holders, and newcomers eating their way through a serious stack of pizza boxes.
Luxembourg was organized by the team at Offchain on a restaurant terrace in the city center (at Al21, one of our partners!). Sunny afternoon, packed tables, Roman-style flatbread with salami coming out of the kitchen in waves. The crew closed the night on the boulevard in matching blue OffChain hoodies (with the Innopay logo on the back).
Two settings. Two crowds. One shared tradition that keeps showing up year after year.
