Everyone works. Some much harder than others. Some not at all. And some appreciate and enjoy their work so much that it relatively doesn't feel like work at all.
Where do you lie?
We've been told since we were in grade school, to find something that you love to do, as you'll be spending the rest of your life doing it, and you should be happy and satisfied in your realm of employment. I myself am a Nurse, and to be frank I absolutely love and adore care taking, and nurturing others. However, this was not always my primary goal in life. My old man was a massage therapist when me and my brothers were growing up, and I often just figured that I would follow in his footsteps because he was my role model, and he made good money from doing it. Well, during my high school years the youthful enthusiastic ambitions started brewing, and all of a sudden I visualized myself being so much more than just a massage therapist. I would day dream about becoming a Doctor, ๐จ๐ฝโโ๏ธor an Astronaut,๐จ๐ฝโ๐ ๐๐ a policeman, ๐ฎ๐ฝ a painter, ๐จ๐ฝโ๐จ a chef, ๐จ๐ฝโ๐ณ an archeologist, a singer, ๐จ๐ฝโ๐ค an actor and movie star, ๐ฝ a businessman, ๐จ๐ฝโ๐ผ๐ a humanitarian, a marine biologist, ๐ฌ a scholar, ๐จ๐ฝโ๐a scientist ๐จ๐ฝโ๐ฌโ๏ธ ...all of the above, and more!!
And I have to wonder, did anybody else have all of these daydreams about what they wanted to be??
Did they know exactly who and what they wanted to be from Day 1?
Is what your doing now different to what you used to daydream about as a child, or in high school?
Ohhh, I used to really want to be a Marine Biologist... I LOVE the Ocean. ๐๐
And finally, are you happy in your current field of work? Does you career give you sec actualization in life? And in general, does your work give you worth?
I'm starting to sound like my favorite motivational speaker, Les Brown.
If you can answer just one or two of the above questions, then you can answer them all, as they all coincide with each other. Don't be shy to share some of your childhood dreams, and how you ended up fulfilling or straying away from them. Again, myself personally used to continuously assuming that I would be a massage therapist like my father for most of my high school years, but before that I used to really daydream about being a doctor and helping people, or an astronaut and changing the world.
Now I am a full-time student, studying to become a Nurse, so my Doctor goals are always just over the horizon. ๐ And in my extra extra spare time, I enjoy writing raps, ๐ค and investing time into productive adventures such as STEEMIT!
You don't have to feel like that, and even if you do, it's totally okay. Some of my friends had their entire lives planned out for them, but I myself personally still have so, so much I would like to explore and experiment with. I want to start with traveling the world, โ๏ธ and continuing my medical studies abroad.
You can leave a little flow chart depicting how your desired careers changed when you were growing up. From about as long as I could remember I always mentally tinkered with different fields, so my flowchart would look something like this.
Doctor โก๏ธ Astronaut โก๏ธ Marine Biologist โก๏ธ Massage Therapist โก๏ธ Famous actor/model/singer and/or rapper โก๏ธ Psychiatrist โก๏ธ Soldier โก๏ธ Nurse!
From about age 3-22, I daydreamed about all of these different fields, and seriously considered all of them from one period of time to the next. I guess I kind of landed somewhere along the lines where I started as I always started thinking that I would become a great Doctor one day, and now I'm about to get started on my Nursing degree, so I want to let everyone know, it's never too late, and it's absolutely okay if you have been a little shaky as to what exactly you wanted to be in life. You always have time to find out, and when you do, you will find that self efficacy, and all the time spent will be absolutely worth it. ๐๐ฝ๐
