Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, in the context of the ASEM Summit which took place on Friday and Saturday in Mongolia, in Ulan Bator, said that the creation of an international court against terrorism, a Romanian and Spanish initiative, will send a clear message that multilateral action and employment of stronger instruments than political declarations are possible.
"These to days of meetings were marked by the incidents in France, and, consequently, we also discussed about the manner in which we should tackle terrorism with clearer and firmer mechanisms than political declarations. Political declarations have also been made and there has been a statement of the leaders who participated in this Summit in respect to the incidents in France and in other parts of the world, where there have been attacks lately. Today, in the informal discussion we had, I reiterated a stand of Romania, a proposal made by Romania together with Spain, on going beyond political declarations and finding means through which we can strengthen the capability of the international community of responding in such situations. We have proposed the creation of an international court against terrorism, to deal with and judge such situations, in order to give a clear message that multilateral action with the use of instruments stronger than political declarations, judicial instruments, is possible," Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said in a statement to Radio Romania broadcaster, released on the Government's website on Saturday.
The Prime Minister added that it was agreed to have a coordination on this matter on an international level in the coming period.
"We have received several support signals. We have seen a similar idea of acting on an international judicial level coming from India. We had (....) an informal discussion with India's Vice President, who represented India in this Summit, and we agreed to coordinate ourselves in the coming period on an international level on this matter, certainly together with Spain, a country that is the other initiator of this idea alongside Romania," Ciolos pointed out.
Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos on Friday and Saturday participated in the 11th ASEM Summit in Ulan Bator. The ASEM Summit marked this year 20 years since the launch of the political dialogue between Europe and Asia, by organising a high-level meeting, "an important event in the economic and political relations between European and Asian countries," according to a Government release.
