Hi all, My name is Alex. I grew up in a small farm town in Illinois, USA. I majored in business in university(college). I graduated early and started an online-based, auto broker right out of school. I figured I'd find a programmer to partner with after graduating, but soon realized good ones are hard to find and even harder to keep, especially starting out without any revenue. I ended up shutting down it down to take an unexpected offer to intern at a financial company in London for a year. On the side of it all, I traded stocks for around 5 years until I felt I needed to have more self-worth and get into a field I've always been interested in but could never fully grasp until now: software/app development.
I self-taught myself many computer languages but could never fully grasp how everything connects. I eventually took a 6-month, online coding bootcamp that specialized in ruby on rails and that really helped me connect the dots. I moved up to the Colorado Rockies a little over a year ago to get better at skiing and focus on app development, and eventually found a techie workspace with like minded individuals and programmers to help me grow as a developer.
I believe I found Steemit through a Youtube video talking about cryptocurrencies that mentioned steem. I got into Bitcoin a little over a year ago, at $400. I also got into Ethereum at $13 when it became available on Coinbase. I I bought into them more for the reason to diversify money. I knew a little about Bitcoin, after watching the documentary, "The rise and rise of bitcoin". With the recent, massive increase in its value, along with Ethereum, I needed to know more about why this all was happening. After a ton of research, I have fallen in love with blockchain technology and its future for our world.
There's a saying I first heard while my time abroad, "Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand" (Confucius circa 450 BC). So, for a little over a month I've been on here, I've been trying to get more involved by reading more articles and contributing through upvotes. This is my first post on here and not sure what more I could post at the moment.
Currently, I feel like I am learning more on here than I could produce so I'm just waiting for my time I guess. I'm starting to focus a lot on learning React.js because of its cross-platform compatibility. I'm hoping that it helps my learning curve with Solidity for Ethereum contracts in the future, and I do have plans to learn how to develop on EOS as well. I'm hoping I can contribute more in the future with the knowledge I gain developing on the blockchains.
Thanks for reading. I truly enjoy this community, the blockchain it was developed on, and look forward its future.
Cheers!
Alex
