Did you know that most children described as orphans actually have living relatives? Or that only a very, very small number of orphans are candidates for adoption? Now Christians worldwide and their churches are realizing how important orphans are to God, as James 1:27 says, and are taking new, creative action.
SURPRISING FACT 1 – If all orphans formed a country of their own, it would be among the 10 largest nations in the world
Reliable sources estimate nearly 160 million children are orphaned or abandoned In Africa The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, set the number at 132 million as of 2005. No matter what the precise count, the global total of orphans equals about one-half the population of the United States.
SURPRISING FACT 2 – Most orphans knows who they are. This means most orphans are old enough to know what has happened to them, carrying deep, painful memories of the trauma that left them abandoned, abused, rejected or otherwise at risk.
SURPRISING FACT 3 – Rather than no parents, “orphan” simply means “alone”
Most orphans have living relatives, often a parent, but their families are severely broken and some of their house burned down as a result of crisis . A real life example is the best way to explain.
Photo of the boy and the girl at the end of this message will explain a real life situation. This is the story of Bi Roland chai, and Bi blessing fukwin, pictured at the left, is 7 years old. He and his sis at the right is 5years old. Their fahter died of HIV AIDS.
Their mother also has the disease And died after some few years. The grand mother of this two children dose not even know what an orphanage is so can not allow this two kids to be taken to an Orphanage after several explanation on what an Orphanage is since the only person left behind to cartered for this children is their old grand mother and she is not educated and she feels that taking this children away she will never see them again. The worst thing about blessing is that she is not mentally balance and then always removed any dress that the grandmother will cloth her with. The boys said that the survive mostly on the little assistance i and some few people gives to them since i frequently visits and check on them.
the little boy of about 7 years doesn’t go to school. He washes dishes all day around the neighborhood for some corns, what a world.
Today, their grandmother is very ill and near death, their future is uncertain the little boy at 7years Roland tries to make sense of what is happening around him, but his family’s situation is complex, his own pain raw, but, sadly, typical of the difficulties many orphans face.
SURPRISING FACT 4 – Adoption is not an adequate solution.
Praise God for those who adopt. When families fail their children, nothing is better than giving them new families.
But just how common is that? The reality is that adoption – the new family option – is only available for a tiny, tiny fraction of the world’s orphans.
practically people are afraid to adopt,
i am a typical example because i adopted the elder sister of Blessing and took to my mothers house went the mother was still alive but within 2years she died in my hands in the Hospital because she had HIV AIDS too so that fear of adoption grip me causing me to be sceptical to go for adoption,
thus catering for Orphans in their family house is what i do with little options of adoption.
