Hi Steemians,
I'm Andy, a sound artist, sound designer and electronic music producer from the UK recording as Andrulian.
I researched quite a lot before posting and one video suggested holding a piece of paper with Steemit and the date on it to prove I'm real and not a bot.
I regularly contribute to projects such as Cities and Memory, Naviar Haiku, have releases on SubCastCo, Fwonk and MobiusSpin netlabels; appear on a number of compilations and have self-released quite a lot of albums.
I write about the mechanics of making music (music theory), review tools for making music including Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), synths and effects and how you can use these in your music. I like to highlight smaller developers and cheaper / low cost / free options where possible although there are also some high end products from time to time because it's good to dream.
I also write about albums that I discover or have been sent, mainly from unsigned artists and small labels such as Chutes and Ladders by ahem on Forged Artifacts https://open.spotify.com/album/5uYePuKGYpoBWyijYDtGdO?si=_ZhM2JLPTZi_TiF0-JoKyA
One of my favourite DAWs is Sensomusic Usine Hollyhock 3. It has a totally different workflow to most other DAWs, records live and has a wealth of groove tools and samplers that open up lots of creative potential.
UDrone allows you to load a sample and then 'play' it using the grid where each row represents a different octave and each column is a note in the octave. This allows you to create a whole range of layered sounds from drones to clicky, artifact type sounds.
Groove tools such as groove mangle can create some very interesting rhythms:
and there are unusual synths too -
This album was made entirely using the in-built synths and effects in Hollyhock 3: https://open.spotify.com/album/06y1C8TcvikvKHzb21KEhB?si=RX1T6aEUQM6BWGT287dvPA
Techniques like cut-up. randomisation and glitches play a large part in my music, I tend to create ambient or dark ambient, experimental, electronic music although sometimes more of a minimal / techno / house sound. I really like the aesthetics of glitch art and use apps like Decim8 to glitch photos and layer them in Gimp to create artwork and album covers like the one for the album above.
I've recently had the great pleasure of beta testing and creating presets for Palindrome an awesome granular morph plotting sampler by Glitchmachines:
There are a lot of reviews on my wordpress site (linked in my profile) and you can also find more of my music on Bandcamp, Spotify and most other digital streaming services.
I'm really looking forward to starting using Steemit to find and post great content.
Andy
