Admit it, introductions are awkward. They are for me, atleast. My name Azmain Amin and I am a new Steemian. I am fresh out of college and working as a Software Engineer with EBSCO Information Services. I am originally from Bangladesh, and please, I beg you, do not say it's part of India. India is all cool and everything, but we are cooler (jk)!
I came to United States almost 5 years ago. My college was in a tiny town in Virginia called Lexington. I still remember the drive from the airport to my dorm - I was a doe eyed kid trying to absorb America in all its eternity. After a gruelling 42 hours flight, it was too much for me take in. I don't think people understand what international students go through in the beginning. Imagine leaving everything single thing you hold dear, your family, your friends, you favorite hangout spot, 20 thousand miles away and coming to a land where you basically know no one. Its scary but it builds you as a person. You grow, and boy o boy have I grown. I am happy I decided to go to college here.
My four years in college has been a roller coaster ride. Washington and Lee is a Greek school with almost 90% of the student body going Greek i.e. joining a fraternity or a sorority. I decided not to join one. I just did not buy the idea. But I was lucky to have a great group of friends who helped me navigate my way through this maze. Being introvertish and shy, I usually avoided the frat parties. I mean, it was disgusting, to be honest. The freaking floor was sticky and the whole place smelt like feet. Ain't my sort of place.
After graduation, I spent two months in San Jose, California. And man, California seduced me pretty bad. California is like the happy, cheerful girl who is not shy to speak her mind and stand for you when no one else will. You have to fall in love with her. That's how good romantic movies are made. Working in Silicon Valley really helped me understand the tech scene a bit better. I realized that the paycheck is not everything. The company culture matters. Your colleagues matter. Important lessons! I moved to North Carolina when I got a full time offer.
I am an avid coder. I love programming. The thrill of solving complex problems keeps me alive. I love thinking through a problem and try to solve it in the most efficient way. At my current job, our motivation is to empower librarians. We provide libraries with software that increases user engagement. The current product that I am working on is called Novelist. Think Netflix for books! Its amazing. Helping people find their next read and keeping them reading is rewarding.
I love to help others who are new to programming and is just wading the water. I have a ton of more stuff to learn but I am more than happy to share what I have already learnt. I focus on backend coding but recently, I started wading into frontend coding as well. I want to learn as much as possible and become a better Software Engineer. My ultimate aim is start my own company. When you dream, dream big.
The stacks I use are: Asp.Net, C#, Javascript, NodeJs, React, Java and Python. If I can help you in any way, drop a comment! I plan to use my Steem account to share things I have learnt.
