Hmmmmm, finally I'm here! You may wonder why I say so. I was introduced to steemit last year but didn’t really grasp what it was about. He said “it's a social media platform where you can express yourself by writing, offering other creative works and you earn when other steemians like (upvote) your posts”. I thought wow nice, like facebook with pay? He paused with a smirk on his face and said “not really! Steemit is…” at the time I already had it in mind that it’s just like facebook and all he was explaining was like pouring water on the back of a hen (lol) so I walked away.
Few months later we met again, he was writing and I was fascinated by what he was writing about. So I said “nice lines, who are you writing for?” with a smile on his face, he retorted “I'm posting this on steemit” I asked, “what is steemit?” I had forgotten we had this conversation earlier on. He looked up at me with a slightly disappointed face and exclaimed “Steemit! I have told you about it before.” I was confused and staring right into his eyes at this point. He took a deep breath, smiled slightly, reminded me of our previous conversation and explained yet again what steemit is about and how I can participate. This time I got a better understanding and decided I was going to be a part of this platform.
I love writing but then came the challenge of what to write on or about. I used to write a lot but then lost interest in writing (you may be wondering why, that’s a story for another day). I got stuck at this point and thought to myself “I won’t be able to do this”. Yet again, He was there to encourage me and asked from time to time “have you joined steemit?” I would come up with excuses, as I wasn’t ready to discuss about my fears of bringing myself to write (now he’ll know when he gets to read this… lol).
But this has changed today as I have decided to share a true life story, an inspiring tale which i hope will help someone, inspire another and comfort yet another. It's a long story with interesting episodes and I will appreciate it if you all will be my audience.
Meanwhile I have been going through some posts here and must say how inspired I am by people like: (Terry) with what he’s doing for the steemit community (I’m in awe at the teardrops smart media token initiative and its bid to bring out the humanity in us, making us to see that tears should not necessarily be a thing of sorrow.) see Terry's post here.
for showing that persistence pays by deciding to stay and keep steeming even when he was getting low rewards at the outset. In Ejemai’s words:
”Writing on Steemit became something I just decided to enjoy doing and decided I was going to keep doing no matter what. And since then, no matter what happened, I just stayed and worked hard and then the dreams started to take shape.”
for motivating and being patient to answer all my question's. I'm saying a big thank you (He's been the "He" all along).
you guys and several others have been a source of inspiration to me, please keep up the good work.
Oh! I haven’t introduced myself, My name is Emem Brownson from Nigeria and I’m glad to be here!
