Hey everyone,
My name is Dimitri and I'm a chef. I'm Greek but have lived in Zimbabwe for most of my life. I'm 33 years old and have just had my first 2 kids - a twin boy and girl.
For those of you who don't know where Zimbabwe is, it's in Southern Africa and is bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the west, Zambia to the northwest, and Mozambique to the east. Although I have lived and traveled around Europe in my 33 years, there is something that always brought me back to Africa - a place I am so happy to call my home.
Right now I'm fulfilling a huge dream I've had for quite a long time - I am building Zimbabwe's first Southern BBQ joint: The Grind & Grill - Coffehouse & BBQ. I have always been a massive fan of BBQ, and no one does it better than the boys in the USA. When I first discovered 16 hour smoked brisket I was just utterly amazed. It blew my freekin' mind!
The philosophy of slow-cooking has always appealed to me - and that smoked BBQ flavour is to die for! I just knew that I had to do something like that back home. Fast forward a few years, after countless sleepless nights and endless stress, we are almost ready to launch our new business to the public - but that is a story for another day.
I look forward to being a part of the Steemit community, and will post lots of pics of my life and family here in Zimbabwe, some of the challenges we face living and doing business in Africa, and of course I will be posting progress on our new restaurant - The Grind & Grill!
